About MISCA

Our mission is to encourage among the citizens of Minneapolis and Ibaraki City, Japan:
  • A mutual interest and understanding of the culture, society and history of each other's communities.
  • A mutual concern for the welfare and improvement of each other's communities.
  • An exchange of correspondence, information, and in-person visits, to enhance the cultural, educational, artistic, musical, athletic, and social affairs of each other's communities.
MISCA works in cooperation with the two cities on a people-to-people level to promote peace, friendship and cooperation. Through exchanges, many life-long and precious friendships are made.

In addition to exchanges, MISCA organizes receptions, tours, home stays, and special activities for visiting delegations. Sister-city activities have indirectly benefitted local economies by strengthening trade and business relations, and by increasing tourism between our two cities.

Ibaraki women study women's rights and Minnesota's health and welfare system.

The association holds an annual meeting during the first quarter of the year, and sponsors special events and programs throughout the year. A quarterly newsletter is sent to all members.

MISCA's mission is strictly charitable and educational. Sister-city activities are coordinated by our association, incorporated by the State of Minnesota as a 501(c)(3), non-profit, non-political, charitable organization. We are affiliated with Sister Cities International.
